Necrotic enteritis of the jejunum. Middle section (jejunum) of the small intestine affected by enteritis (intestinal inflammation) that has caused tissue death (necrosis). Enteritis is most often caused by ingestion of pathogenic micro-organisms, such as bacteria. If the swelling becomes too severe, the blood supply may be compromised, leading to the death of tissue cells and destruction of the organ itself.
