A variety of samples of transition metals. These include precious metals such as silver and gold along with familiar metals such as copper, iron and zinc. The transition metals are in the d-group of the periodic table, with the elements distinguished by the degree of filling of a d-subshell of electrons. Each has more than one oxidation state and their salts form coloured solutions in water.
