Sperm whale tissue analysis. Tissue sample from a dead sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) sliced by a microtome. The thin slices are shown here floating in water in readiness to be mounted onto a microscope slide. Scientists will study the tissue specimen under a microscope. The sample came from a dead male sperm whale that was found on Henne Strand, Jutland, Denmark. The specimen measured 14 meters in length and weighed an estimated 30 tonnes. Photographed at the National Veterinary Institute in Copenhagen.
