Plant cell dividing. Transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through a mint (family Lamiaceae) plant cell undergoing cytokinesis, showing the cell plate (diagonal, centre). Cytokinesis is the process through which the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell is divided to form two daughter cells. In terrestrial plants this occurs through the formation of a cell plate, whereby vesicles carrying the components needed to create the new cell wall and cell membrane align themselves along the site of division.
