Botanical micrograph polarized light, transverse section of Ilex or Holly, a genus of some 500 species of flowering plants in the family Aquifoliaceae. Ilex is the only living genus in that family. The species Ilex intricata here displayed is a small evergreen indigenous to high altitude forests of Southern China and Nepal.
