Photosynthesis light-harvesting complex. Illustration of the light-harvesting complex (orange) found on the thylakoid membrane (blue) in the chloroplasts of plants. This is the location of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigment molecules (orange) that take part in photosynthesis. They absorb incoming light, with a cascade effect leading to a reaction centre (lower centre), a pair of chlorophyll 'a' molecules. The energy is transferred out through an electron acceptor (red, upper centre) and used in further reactions elsewhere on the membrane. For this artwork without labels, see image C023/8814.
