Shoreline wave energy. Diagram showing the principles of shore-based wave power stations. A large tube is placed at the shoreline below the level of the waves but open to the air at the other end. As a wave arrives, water rushes up the pipe pushing the air out and past a turbine. This turns, generating electricity. As the wave receded, the water drops and the air rushes back into the pipe, again turning the turbine.
