D-amino acid oxidase enzyme. Molecular model of the enzyme D-amino acid oxidase (DAAO) bound to an inhibitor. This enzyme is present in a wide range of organisms from yeasts to humans. It oxidizes D-amino acids to the corresponding imino acids. It is thought to play a role in the mechanisms causing schizophrenia. Inhibitors of this enzyme include the anti-psychotic drug Risperidone.
