Desert rose. This is he colloquial name given to rose-like formations of the minerals baryte (barium sulphate, as here) or gypsum (calcium sulphate dihydrate) that include abundant amounts of sand grains. They form in arms, sandy conditions such as a salt basin. The reddish colour here suggests that the included sand has some iron oxides present.
