Pluto's surface. Enhanced colour composite satellite image showing the surface of the dwarf planet Pluto from a distance of 17,000 kilometres. This image covers a strip of land 80 kilometres wide, from the 'badlands' northwest of Sputnik Planum (far right), across the al-Idrisi mountains (centre-right) and into Pluto's icy plains (left). Imaged by combining blue, red and near-infrared images obtained by the Ralph instrument's Multispectral Visible Imaging Camera (MVIC) with images from the Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) on NASA's New Horizons interplanetary space probe.
