Liraglutide. Molecular model of the drug Liraglutide, used to treat obesity and diabetes. This is a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist which binds to the same receptors as does the body's GLP-1 hormone. It stimulates insulin secretion which controls blood sugar levels, decreases the production of the hormone glucagon, slows gastric emptying, and reduces appetite. It is used for the management of type 2 diabetes under the trade name Victoza, and as a treatment for obesity in adults under the name Saxenda.
