Scabies mite (Sarcoptes scabiei canis). Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the head of a canine scabies mite, showing its mouthparts (centre). This mite reaches a length of between 0.25 and 0.4 millimetres. The female burrows into the skin and lays eggs.
