Alkali dissolving polyester. A pipette is used to put a drop of concentrated sodium hydroxide onto a swatch of polyester. Care must be taken when working in a lab with alkalis as they can easily hydrolyse polyesters and cause holes in clothing. A previous drop has burned a hole in the material and bleached the surrounding.
