Stellated dodecahedron. 16th-century artwork of a skeletonic representation of a stellated dodecahedron, from 'On the Divine Proportion' (1509) by Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli (c.1447-1517). This book was about mathematical proportions such as the 'golden ratio', the divine proportion referred to in the title. The book popularised geometry. It included artworks and diagrams by Pacioli's friend the artist and architect Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519). These drawings of geometrical figures were by Leonardo.
