The nationalities (1890 Census) are mostly German, Irish and American. The total population in 1890 was 1,515,301. These Tenement-House Committee maps, drawn by Frederick Erastus Pierce (1878-1935), were published on 19 January 1895 in the US political magazine 'Harper's Weekly'.
