Drumlin field. Satellite image of a drumlin field in the Nunavut Territory, Canada. A drumlin field is a landform left behind when a glacier retreats and consist of an area of elongated hills (drumlins) aligned parallel to the flow of ice. The drumlin field shown here is thought to have been formed below the Laurentide ice Sheet during the last Ice Age but the drumlins appear to have a more elongated form than is typical. This is thought to have been due to the ice cover including a fast-flowing ice stream - an area of faster moving ice within the larger glacier.
