Allegorical medical man. 15th-century illustrated manuscript on medical allegories, part of a set of documents referred to as spiritual encyclopaedias of the Middle Ages. This manuscript page shows a central human figure with body parts and organs labelled. These include the brain, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, neck, throat, lungs, arms, elbows, hands, fingers, legs, knees, ankles, feet and genitals. There are numerous annotated circles, plus text across top in red. The Gothic script (in Latin and German) is on vellum in black and red ink. This manuscript is part of a collection of pages that were published in southern Germany in around 1410.
