Hypertrichosis exhibit poster. 19th-century poster publicising lectures and exhibits in London in 1887 centring on a girl from Laos with hypertrichosis named Krao. Also known as werewolf syndrome, this rare condition results in excessive hair growth over most of the body. Rather than being presented as a medical case, Krao (1876-1926) was advertised as 'The Missing Link' between humans and monkeys, and proof of the evolutionary theories of Charles Darwin. Krao was discovered by the explorer Carl Bock (1849-1932), who is mentioned in the text. She was exhibited as a child in Europe and the USA by a promoter named the Great Farini.
