Wide-angle Optical Multi-channel Probe (WOMP). This specialised laser instrument allows sophisticated nuclear experiments to be carried out without a critical mass of plutonium. The data is used to help validate the extremely complex computer codes used on supercomputers to model nuclear weapons.
