TAROT - BOIARDO TRIONFI - SYMBOLS - EYE - JUNO A picture card, The Queen, from a Trionfi pack designed by Matteo Maria Boiardo [1441-1494], and sometimes confused with Tarocchi cards. This example is the Queen of Eyes, who is represented by the goddess Juno, associated from ancient times with the 'bird of eyes', the peacock. The other suites in the deck are Arrows (symbol of Love), Vases (symbol of Hope) and Whips (symbol of Fear): as the verse on this card suggests, the Eyes suite symbolized Jealousy. Each card that has survived contains a descriptive tercet, composed in Italian by Boiardo. For a survey, see A. Zottoli [ed.] Tutte le opera di Matteo Maria Boiardo, 1963-7,
