SYMBOLS - ZODIAC - TAROT - SIGILS The symbol (or sigil) of final initiation ('the accomplishment of the Great Work'), at the centre of the zodiac, which represents both Time and Space. This symbol is a reversal of the sigil for the symbol for Sulphur (representative of the lower energies in man, so much in need of redemption). Oswald Wirth, who reproduces the 'final initiation' symbol in Le Tarot Des Imagiers du Moyen Age (1927), points out that the symbol is the reversal of that form by the body of the hanging man, in the 12th card of the Marseilles Tarot Pack, Le Pendu. In other words, the symbol represents the redemption of the ordinary human being.
