During the summer 1977; the circle of teepees stands was to celebrate the ceremony of the Sun Dance; or looking at the sun. This religious ritual is practiced by many Indian tribes of North America and is the largest among the Plains Indians. Usually it happens discreetly away from curious eyes. This ceremony takes place once a year during the summer solstice; during the full moon in late June or July. The celebration can last from four to eight days. It intends to symbolically represent the continuity between life and death and affirm that death was not an end but the beginning of a new cycle.
