Photographer Harold Chapman recalls "A Russian photographer goes round the Paris cafes at night taking pictures of people to order. Seeing us there, and our various expensive photography and lenses and equipment set out, he thought we were real serious photographers and asked me to take a portrait of him." The Russian cafe photographer, well wrapped up against the cold of the winter of 1960, came in the Conti when a group of Left Bank photographers were there, having met up to discuss and show their day's work, tell each other their techinical secrets and take pictures of their friends and people in the cafe. Cafe Le Conti, Rue de Buci, Saint-Germain-des-Pres, 6e arrondissement, Left Bank, Paris, France, 1960.
