Les Halles at night. Outside the famous cafe Au Pied de Cochon where a street seller of seafood has his stall of oysters and mussels for sale which are sold by weight to passers-by to take home and cook. A notice on the wall announces "Grande Degustation Fruits de Mer 4 F". Waiters would come out of the cafe and take from the street seller orders of shellfish to customers inside. The street seller is standing by his well worn wooden kitchen chair where he spends many hours seated in his long coat and wearing his hat and scarf and sheltered from the wind by a small tree in a plant pot. He would sit out in the bitterly cold wind and had done so for years in order to earn a modest living. He is holding out a bunch of fresh parsley. A couple of "fetards" - revellers - are walking by, out on a cold night enjoying the spectacle of Les Halles. The parked car in the foreground is a Mercedes. Rue Coquilliere next to the huge church of Saint-Eustache and opposite the meat pavilion, Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
