Man o' War (1917) first ran on 6th June 1919 at Belmont Park, ridden by John Loftus and winning by six lengths. He ran nine more times as a two-year-old, at Belmont, Jamaica, Aqueduct and Saratoga, winning all except when second to Upset at Saratoga in August (Loftus left his challenge too late). He is here at Belmont for the Futurity (13th September), again ridden by Loftus. He won from John P. Grier and eight others. He ran and won 11 times as a three-year-old, twice beating Upset and both times giving him weight. The History of Horse Racing by Roger Longrigg, page 282.
