Plane crashes into tree at Claygate - pilot and passenger have remarkable escape . When an aeroplane owned by Air Service Training Ltd , of Hamble Aerodrome , Southampton , crashed into a tree in Oaken Lane , Claygate , Surrey , the occupants , Mr R C Berlyn an ex - officer of the RAF and Mr W E Creek , wireless instructor of the school , had a remarkable escape . The plane was on its way to Croydon and apparently lost its bearings and was forced to come down . Photo shows ; a policeman inspecting the wrecked plane at Claygate . 27 April 1934
