H M S Excellent gun team wins field gun competition at Whale Island . The seamen gun team from HMS Excellent ( Whale Island ) the naval training school , competing against teams from the Royal Maines and excllent Sub Lieutenants , won the Sub Lieutenants Cup and Brickwood Trophy in the Field Gun competition at Whale Island , Portsmouth . The Brickwood Trophy is awarded to the crew with the fastest individual time for the three runs, each 100 yards , in which both gun and limber wheels are removed at the commencement and replaced at the end of the run .
