A view of Picadilly Circus showing the traffic signals installed. They are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, being similar to the lamp standards. Actuated by road pads which register the amount of traffic in the three main road streams, the biggest union traffic signals in the world - 50 in number - will shortly come into operation in Picadilly Circus. The Circus is one of the busiest traffic centres in the world, heading 48,000 vehicles every hour stop intersections, however make it the world's worst. The most difficult tasks is now being studied, of evolving the best timing for arrangements for the 50 signals. 22 September 1937
