London still has a hand potter. Mr Ronald Czilinsky, one of the last professional hand potters in the London district, worked in a house he has built for himself and his family at Harrow Weald, Middlesex. Mr Czilinsky, who is a designer as well as a potter, made his own kilns, potters wheels, and house furniture. He has converted his dining room into a studio. Despite mass production, Mr Czilinsky says there is still a limited market for hand pottery, and he contends that it has a style and finish that other methods cannot give. He is of the opinion that men make better potters than women. Formally a woodcarver, third generation of his family to follow the craft, Mr Czilinsky turned to his hobby, pottery, when the demand for carving slackened off. Photo shows, Mr Ronald Czilinsky with samples of his pottery at his Harrow home. 8 February 1938
