London still has a hand potter. Mr Ronald Czilinsky, one of the last professional hand potters in the London district, worked in a house he has built for himself and his family at Harrow Weald, Middlesex. Mr Czilinsky, who is a designer as well as a potter, made his own kilns, potters wheels, and house furniture. He has converted his dining room into a studio. Despite mass production, Mr Czilinsky says there is still a limited market for hand pottery, and he contends that it has a style and finish that other methods cannot give. He is of the opinion that men make better potters than women. Formally a woodcarver, third generation of his family to follow the craft, Mr Czilinsky turned to his hobby, pottery, when the demand for carving slackened off. Photo shows, Mr Ronald Czilinsky and painting a piece of pottery at his home constructed studio. 8 February 1938
