London buses to record their own movements by electricity. The first overhead wire, looking something like a wireless aerial has been erected near the forecourt of Victoria station in preparation for an experiment by London transport, which, it is hoped, will enable the movements of all buses to be automatically recorded on dials at the board's headquarters and congestion relieved. The buses will carry on the roof coil of wire through which will pass an alternating current. The instant of bus passes underneath the wire, the current in the coil on the roof will induce a current in the fixed wire. Amplified and transmitted by wire to the central office, the current will record the passing of the bus on a clock face. Clocks on service 44 will be pioneers in bus experiment, the first of its kind in the world. Photo shows, the first overhead wire imposition at Victoria. 5 November 1937
