When the Russian hunter receives a commission to trap a tiger, he doesn't fit himself out for a tropical trip but puts on his snowshoes and seeks his game in the snowy wastes of the Khabarovsk region, through which the Amur River flows, on the Pacific coast of the Soviet Union. This series of pictures show the thrilling chase through the snows from the moment the target is cited until, harried by dogs, it turns at bay and is captured after a fierce struggle in which it uses terrible teeth and claws to good effect. The hunter;s only weapon usually consists of a forked stick with which they pin the beast to the ground. Photo shows: A dog harrying a tiger as the hunter comes up with forked stick held ready. 5 February 1939
