Robert (Rod and Line) Charlton Born in Ashington, Northumberland. One of a great family of football players he joined Manchester United in August 1953. Last year he flashed across the heavens as the "shooting" star. His speed of running and power of shot are indeed exceptional for one of his age. He has already had three full international caps for England, one Youth cap and four Schoolboy caps. In the World Cup party in Sweden last year he was not given a game, which must have been very disappointing for him at the time, but I am sure both England and Bobby will benefit from this in the near future. His favourite sportsman is Cyril Washbrook. When he is not putting them in the net, he likes to catch them on the end of a rod and line, and his ambition is to land a twenty-pound salmon.
