It was a big night for Londoners whent he lights and signs -extinguished by war-time decrees - went up for the first time in ten years. Crowds gathered in the principal west End centres to see the signs flicker into brilliance, dazzling many of the watching children who, born during the war, had never before seen London's night lights.
