158 captured guerillas were marched through the roads of Salonica , along which almost the entire town's population had gathered to boo the captured remnants of the five hundred and eighty strong band , which three nights before had opened fire and shelled the town . After three days fighting , the band was almost completely exterminated . 164 bodies were collected from ravines , mountain sides and forests through which the band had desperately tried to escape .
