Britain 's first woman bank manager , Miss Hilda Harding , seen at ther desk at Barclays Bank , Lombard Street . It has been announced that she wll take over the managership of a new branch to be opened at Hanvoer Street in December . Miss Harding started work with Barclays in 1934 as a shorthand typist and later moved to Henley and Reading (where she now lives) and ten years ago went to Lombard Street as Secretary to the General Manager . It is believed that when her new appointment was made it was held in mind that Hanover Street will be the centre of the fashion house district . Miss Harding 's deputy will be a woman but the staff will be mixed . 16th May 1958
