The damaged destroyer HMS Volage tows the 1650 tonne British destroyer HMS Saumarez after they were both damaged by mines Tuesday 22 October in the Corfu Channel. In the Saumarez incident, one officer, in 30 ratings lost their lives. In the Volage incident which occurred 90 minutes after Saumarez struck a mine, one rating was killed, five missing, presumed killed, and one died from injuries. 29 October 1946
