Bridge Builders At Work Wear Safety Coats. Bridge builders at work on the new bridge for the Medway Towns' Motor Road over the River Medway in Kent wear yellow safety waistcoats, or life jackets. Each of these coats carries a torch to show the wearer's position should he fall overboard into the water at night. The river at this spot is filthy and black, and so the yellow coat should show up well at night as well as day. The three men on the left are wearing protective clothing over their life-jackets, but one can be seen on the man extreme right. Kent, England. 06 February 1961.
