Post Office Experiments With Golf Jackets And Berets For Staff. New uniforms for men and women of the Post Office postal staff were shown at the General Post Office Headquarters, King Edward Building, London, EC today. They are designed to be smarter, more economical and healthier than previous types and are to be given 12 months' trial by Post Office workers at Exeter and on Euston Station. A new type of material has been chosen to make the uniforms last longer in good condition. Photo shows: The new uniforms at King Edward Building today. The man's uniform consists of serge trousers, a serge blouse of the golf jacket type, and a cap of improved design. The woman's uniform, of more modern style and cut than the old, includes a beret instead of the present type of headwear. 'Modelling' the uniforms are Mr. W.R. Edwards of Kingston, Surrey who has been with the GPO 12 years, and Miss Shiela Brady of Richmond, Surrey (four years with the GPO). London, England. 08 February 1952.
