Sir George Stapledon retired at the beginning of the year and has settled in the Chilterns. He was lecturer in agricultural botany at the Royal agricultural College, Cirencester 1910-1912; advisor in agricultural botany at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth 1912-1917; director of the official seed testing station of the food production department 1917-1918; professor of agricultural botany and director of the Welsh plant breeding station, University of Wales, Aberystwyth 1919-1942, and director of the grassland improvement station, Ministry of agriculture and fisheries 1940-1945.
