At 9:10 today, 3100 Smithfield meat market workers and drivers, members of the transport and General workers union, struck work in support of their close shop campaign directed against non-union members and members of the Smithfield Guild of clerks and salesman. The ultimatum to non-unionists are members of the Smithfield Guild to join a union affiliated to the trades union Congress expired at 9 o'clock.
