Only one Welsh quad lives. Yesterday, Tuesday, Mrs Peggy Thomas, 29, wife of Pontyrhyl painter, gave birth to quads-two boys and two girls-at the Bridgend (Glamorgan) Hospital. No doctor was present as there have been no suspicion that quads were expected and three young midwives on hospital staff took charge of Mrs Thomas. Despite a day long struggle to save the quadruplets, three of them died last night, leaving me firstborn (a girl) , the only survivor. They died within an hour of each other in the oxygen tension which they had been christened. Photo shows, before the news came that three of the quads, had died, Mr Idwal Thomas (on right of picture) was toasted by his friends in a Bridgend Hotel yesterday evening. 8 January 1947
