When B.O.A.C's largest flying boat Golden Hind, skimmed down onto the water in Poole Harbour yesterday it marked the end of a 30 year crash free flying careers the captain Dudley Travers, one of the world's most experienced pilots. In his 19,100 hours of flying, captain Travers has covered over 2 1/2 million miles, has never had an accident and never had a single passenger injured. As he landed outward bound flying boat tipped its wings to salutes the Vectra pilot, whose peacetime career has been every bit as noteworthy as his 1914-1918 war service, when Capt Travis won the DFC, the Croix de Guerre and was twice mentioned in dispatches. 25 March 1947
