Appointed last night to head of the central office, new Scotland Yard, is Superintendent George Hatherill, MBE, who now controls 700 detectives from his desk in headquarters. The London, Superintendent Hatherill has served for 27 years with the criminal investigation Department, and during his 3 1/2 years with number one district cleared up no less than 75 cases. Prominent cases in which he has figured include the "Babes in the Wood" murder at Amersham in November 1941, and the Warsaw Bank note forgeries which amounted to many thousands of pounds. 16 April 1947
