In observance of the centuries old custom, Oxford undergraduates threw hot pennies into the street below for Oxford choirboys to scramble for. This annual custom, known as the penny scramble, is usually watched by a large crowd, the idea being that the boy finishing with the most pennies is the winner. 17 May 1947
