An ambush and a chase through the streets of London, followed by two crashes early today ended a 6 1/2 hours search for a powerful car which had travelled 75 miles from the Westend to Portsmouth and later returned to London. Portsmouth police were warned to look out for the car and Scotland Yard prepared and "ambush" at Staines Bridge. The stolen car was seen and the chase began. Police cars and the stolen car raced through the roads and backstreets from Staines to Rutland Gate, South Kensington, where the stolen car crashed into a wall and one of the police cars hit a refuge.
