Strike at London hotels. 300 hotel workers from the Savoy Group, employed as the Savoy, Claridges, the Berkeley, and Simpson's stopped work today (Thursday) in defiance of an appeal by the National Union of General and Municipal Workers to postpone strike action. Pickets have taken up position outside the Savoy and Claridges, carrying placards urging workers not to 'scab'. Inside the hotel. There was little inconvenience to guests breakfasts were served as usual. It is not clear yet whether the strike is official or unofficial as, until called for a postponement, Union action for a strike was in preparation. Photo shows, some of the strikers bearing placards outside the Savoy hotel this morning (Thursday). 6 November 1947
