Liquefied natural gas carrier The first Liquefied Natural Gas carrier in the world to carry LNG from Das Island , Abu Dhabi , in the United Arab Emirates , takes aboard its cargo recently . The vessel , named Hilli (after an archaeological site on Abu Dhabi mainland ) has a capacity of 125,000 cubic metres and was built at the Rosenberg Verft dockyard at Stavanager in Norway and owned by Golar Gas Carriers Inc , Liberia . The Hilli 's cargo is bound for Japan . The Hilli is the first sea vessel to carry Liquefied Natural Gas . Until now , LNG was transported through pipelines . Undated
