The main arteries are the carotid arteries, with the smaller ones being the vertebral arteries. These arise from the upper chest (bottom) and extend up the neck. The arteries then branch out (at top) into the brain and other areas of the head. Included here are regions such as the carotid bulb (where the internal and external carotid arteries branch off the common carotid artery) and the basilar arteries. These arteries converge at the Circle of Willis at top, at the base of the brain.
