Agricultural winter landscape in Russia, satellite image. This snow-covered region of south-western Russia is next to the Volga River (across top). Windbreaks, roads, and fence lines form thin lines, while the thicker lines are trees planted as windbreaks to protect fields from dry wind and erosion. They also retain snow, allowing more moisture to penetrate into the soil. Image data obtained by the Landsat 8 satellite on 1 February 2014.
